I Couldn’t Hear Nobody Pray

In this episode, with the title I Couldn’t Hear Nobody Pray, we delve into an important and often overlooked piece of music history, exploring some of the very first African American groups ever recorded. Jubilee Quartets were very popular around the turn of the last century, with roots in African American singing tradition.

These pioneers helped shape the sound of popular music, yet their contributions are rarely given the recognition they deserve. Along the way, I uncovered some incredible songs—rich with history, soul, and resilience—that deserve to be heard and celebrated.

And what better time to share them than during Black History Month?
